*Update* – Troopers investigating shooting incident – Newark

Newark– On Wednesday May 27, 2020 at approximately 9:39 p.m. Delaware State Police responded to a reported shooting at the I-95 service plaza in the area of the Sunoco Gas Station, located at 520 JFK Memorial Hwy.

The investigation revealed that 5 victims were traveling northbound on I-95 in the same vehicle in the area of the service plaza. An unknown suspect vehicle traveled past the victim’s car and fired gunshots into the victim’s vehicle.  During the shooting, a 16 year old female victim suffered a gunshot to the abdomen and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. A second victim, a 20 year old male suffered minor injuries from broken glass and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. No other occupants of the vehicle were injured.

After the incident all occupants of the vehicle exited the vehicle while on I-95 northbound and ran to the Sunoco Gas Station. The victim vehicle came to a rolling stop off the roadway just north of the exit to the service area on the north side.  The suspect vehicle continued traveling northbound on I-95 after the incident. At this time there is no suspect information or surveillance footage.
