Rehoboth Beach- The Delaware State Police have arrested 32-year-old David M. Adkins after he was involved in a single motor vehicle crash, found to be under the influence and drugs were discovered.

The incident occurred on March 28, 2020 at approximately 10:29 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to a single vehicle collision at Coastal Highway and Old Landing Road, Rehoboth Beach.  Upon arrival, it was learned that the operator of a white Toyota Camry had traveled through a red light at the intersection, crashed through a brick wall and drove over several headstones at the Midway Presbyterian Church cemetery.  Witnesses then observed the operator exit the vehicle and flee on foot from the scene.

A Trooper located the operator, David Adkins, in the area of the Fairfield Inn & Suites.  Upon contact, the Trooper observed that Adkins appeared to be under the influence and a DUI investigation ensued.  A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately .462 grams of heroin and drug paraphernalia.  A computer inquiry revealed that Adkins’s license was suspended.

Adkins was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked
  • Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Drug
  • Failure to Transfer Title and Registration
