*Update* Troopers Investigate Serious Crash Involving Pedestrian-Wilmington

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police investigated a serious crash involving a pedestrian that occurred earlier today.

The incident occurred on February 23, 2020 at approximately 10:35 a.m., when a 2001 Buick Century was traveling northbound on Concord Pike north of Brandywine Parkway, Wilmington, in the left travel lane.  A pedestrian started to walk across the northbound lane of Concord Pike from the area of the Market Square.  The operator of the Buick was unable to avoid the pedestrian, striking the pedestrian within the left travel lane.  The operator of the Buick remained at the scene.

The pedestrian, a 56-year-old female from Jenkintown, PA, was not utilizing a crosswalk and issued a citation for same.  She was transported to the Christiana Hospital with serious injuries.

The operator of the Buick, a 56-year-old female from Pennsville, NJ sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Wilmington Hospital.

Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest-Lewes

Lewes-  The Delaware State Police have arrested 20-year-old Sean P. McElwee of Georgetown, DE after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs.

The investigation began on February 22, 2020 at approximately 7:01 p.m., when a Trooper observed a black Volkswagen Jetta traveling eastbound on Pinetown Road at the intersection with Sweetbriar Road.  The operator failed  to come to a complete stop and utilize their turn signal.  A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, Sean P. McElwee when an odor of marijuana was detected.

A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted and the following was located:

  • Approximately 122.85 grams of marijuana
  • 43 edible THC candies
  • 2 Vyvanse 60 milligram pills
  • Drug Paraphernalia
  • Alcoholic beverages

McElwee was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession With Intent To Deliver a Controlled Substance (2 counts)
  • Possession of a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (2 counts)
  • Underage Possession/Consumption of Alcohol
  • Turn or Move a Vehicle without giving proper Signal
  • Failure to Stop At a Stop Sign

McElwee was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on his own recognizance.

Wilmington-The Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a serious crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 10:35 a.m., on February 23, 2020.

As a result of this crash, Concord Pike (Rt 202) in the area of Brandywine Parkway is closed at this time.

Troopers Arrest Three Suspects on Drug and Weapon Charges-Rehoboth Beach

Rehoboth Beach- The Delaware State Police have arrested three suspects on drug and multiple weapon charges.

The incident occurred on February 23, 2020 at approximately 12:41 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the Jake’s Seafood restaurant, located at 19178 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, for a report of a disorderly subject.  Upon arrival, Troopers met with a security guard who advised that a subject became disorderly and was asked to leave the establishment.  The subject was reported to have been seen with a firearm in his hand and entered the driver’s side of a black Chevy sedan.

Troopers observed a 2018 black Chevrolet Malibu exiting the restaurant’s parking lot and make a right turn onto southbound Coastal Highway.  The vehicle was seen failing to maintain it’s lane and a traffic stop was initiated.  Contact was made with the driver, identified as Khail S. Reid, 21, of Delmar, DE, when an odor of marijuana was detected.  There were also two passengers in the vehicle, identified as Isaiah Reid, 22, of Seaford, DE and Saa’diq A. Holmes, 21, of Newark, NJ.

A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted and the following was located:

  • a loaded (10 rounds) 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number
  • a loaded (17 rounds) 9mm handgun
  • (3) 9mm bullets
  • Approximately 59.12 grams of marijuana
  • Over $600.00 in suspected drug proceeds

A computer inquiry revealed that all three suspects were a person prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.  They were all transported back to Troop 7 where they were charged with the following:

Khail S. Reid:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited
  • Possession With Intent To Deliver a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of a Weapon with a Removed, Obliterated or Altered Serial Number
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon A Semi Auto or Auto By Person Prohibit
  • Conspiracy Second Degree
  • Failure to Have Insurance Identification
  • Drive in Proper Lane

Khail Reid was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $15250.00 secured bond.

Isaiah Reid:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited
  • Possession With Intent To Deliver a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of a Weapon with a Removed, Obliterated or Altered Serial Number
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon A Semi Auto or Auto By Person Prohibit
  • Conspiracy Second Degree

Troopers Investigating Liquor Store Armed Robbery – Smyrna

Smyrna- The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at a Smyrna area liquor store last evening.

The incident occurred on February 22, 2020 at approximately 9:56 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the Spruance City Liquor store located at 625 Smyrna Clayton Blvd, Smyrna, in reference to an armed robbery. Upon arrival Troopers learned that a male suspect entered the store armed with what appeared to be a handgun.  The suspect pointed the handgun at an employee.  The employee turned over an undisclosed amount of cash prior to the suspect fleeing the scene on foot.

The suspect was described as a dark skinned black male, wearing a dark colored jacket and mask.

No surveillance images are available at this time.

*Update*- Troopers Conducting Death Investigation-Frederica

Frederica – The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit are continuing to conduct a death investigation in which two individuals were found deceased in a parking lot.

The investigation began on February 22, 2020 at approximately 4:04 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the parking lot area off of Cooper Avenue, Bowers Beach, Frederica.  Upon arrival two individuals were located deceased in the parking lot.

A 55-year-old male and a 40-year-old female were both pronounced deceased at the scene from apparent gunshot wounds.  A handgun has been recovered from the scene and there is no concerns for public safety at this time.

The individuals have been turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science where an autopsy will be performed to determine the manner and cause of death. The victims’ identities are being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.

The incident continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit.  If anyone has information regarding this incident, they are asked to please contact Detective M. Delaware State Police to Conduct Citizen’s Police Academy in Sussex County

Sussex County, Delaware – The Delaware State Police is now accepting applications for the Spring 2020 Citizens Police Academy  (CPA) to be held in Sussex County. The deadline for the CPA registration is March 19, 2020.

The Spring 2020 Delaware State Police Citizen’s Police Academy will begin on Thursday, April 2, 2020, and will conclude on Thursday, June 18, 2020. The academy will consist of ten, Thursday night sessions, running from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., classes will take place at the Delaware State Police Troop 7 located at 19444 Mulberry Knoll Road, Lewes and the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center, located at 21911 Rudder Lane, Georgetown, Delaware. Participants will learn about a wide array of interesting police activities consistent with what a Delaware Trooper experiences today. The academy includes but is not limited to; classroom instruction of evidence processing, criminal and traffic investigations, tours of the museum, academy, and troops, special units, and other fascinating law enforcement related topics.

Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to ride with patrol troopers. Class size will be limited to 20 participants and a background check will be conducted on all applicants. The deadline for registration is March 19, 2020. Applications must be returned by that date in order to be processed. If interested, access the application on-line by visiting www.dsp.delaware.gov and clicking on the “Community” tab to find Citizen’s Police Academy. Traffic Stop Leads to Drug and Weapon Charges- Dover

Dover- The Delaware State Police have arrested Drew E. Forrester, 24, 0f Clayton, DE, after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a firearm and drugs.

The incident occurred on February 21, 2020 at approximately 8:22 p.m., on N. Dupont Highway, Dover, when a Trooper initiated a traffic stop on 2008 Grey Dodge Charger for having window tint without a waiver.  Upon contact with the driver and sole occupant, Drew Forrester, an odor of marijuana was detected.

A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted and the following was located:

  • Unloaded Taurus .40 handgun
  • A fully loaded (15 rounds) magazine
  • Approximately 58.01 grams of Marijuana

Forrester was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 9 where he was charged with the following:

  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon A Firearm
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon By Person Who Also Possesses a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Operating a Vehicle With Improper Window Tinting

Forrester was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on his own recognizance.
