Troopers Arrest Port Penn Man for Assault

Port Penn – The Delaware State Police have arrested 59 year old Kevin L. McEnaney of Port Penn, on assault related charges, stemming from an altercation that occurred late Thursday night.

On Thursday, February 27, 2020 at approximately 11:47 p.m., Troopers responded to the Christiana Hospital Emergency Department in reference to a subject who had been admitted with injuries sustained as a result of an assault. Contact was made with the 54 year old male victim who had sustained non-life threatening injuries consisting of a stab wound to his back and blunt force trauma to his head.

The investigation determined that the victim and McEnaney, who are acquaintances, engaged in a physical altercation at a residence located in the unit block of W. Market St., in Port Penn. During the altercation McEnaney was able to gain possession of a folding knife which he utilized to stab the victim in the back as well as an axe handle which he used to strike the victim in the head.

Troopers responded to the W. Market St. residence and took McEnaney into custody without incident. During a search of the residence both the knife and axe handle were recovered.

McEnaney was charged with one count each of Assault 2nd Degree and Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Felony. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 and then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $38,000.00 secured bail.
