Millsboro– The Delaware State Police have arrested 52-year-old Joshua L. Wharton, of Lewes, DE (no photo) after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and a deadly weapon.
The incident occurred on February 25, 2020 at approximately 1:23 p.m., on Indian Mission Road, Millsboro, when a Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Silverado for having window tint without a waiver. Upon contact with the driver and sole occupant, Joshua Wharton, an odor of marijuana was detected.
A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted and the following was located:
- Approximately 57.11 grams of cocaine
- Approximately .14 grams of crack cocaine
- Acetaminophen 325 mg and Hydrocodone Bitartrate 7.5 mg (3 pills)
- A large machete
- Drug paraphernalia
- Over $200 in suspected drug proceeds
Wharton was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following:
- Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
- Possession With Intent To Deliver Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity
- Possession of a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance (2 counts)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (2 counts)
- Failure to Have Insurance Identification
- Operating a Vehicle With Improper Window Tinting
Wharton was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on his own recognizance.
