Traffic Stop Leads to Drug and Weapon Charges-Millsboro

Millsboro–  The Delaware State Police have arrested 52-year-old Joshua L. Wharton, of Lewes, DE (no photo) after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and a deadly weapon.

The incident occurred on February 25, 2020 at approximately 1:23 p.m., on Indian Mission Road, Millsboro, when a Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Silverado for having window tint without a waiver.  Upon contact with the driver and sole occupant, Joshua Wharton, an odor of marijuana was detected.

A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted and the following was located:

  • Approximately 57.11 grams of cocaine
  • Approximately .14 grams of crack cocaine
  • Acetaminophen 325 mg and Hydrocodone Bitartrate 7.5 mg (3 pills)
  • A large machete
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Over $200 in suspected drug proceeds

Wharton was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession With Intent To Deliver Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity
  • Possession of a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance (2 counts)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (2 counts)
  • Failure to Have Insurance Identification
  • Operating a Vehicle With Improper Window Tinting

Wharton was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on his own recognizance.
