Felton- The Delaware State Police have arrested 44-year-old Ronald W. Johnson Jr. of Felton, after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and a weapon.
The incident occurred on February 15, 2020 at approximately 8:15 p.m., when members of the Governor’s Task Force (GTF) observed a Kia Sedona stopped in the left turn lane on Dupont Highway at Evens Road, Felton, with a loud muffler. A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the operator and sole occupant, Ronald Johnson, when an odor of marijuana was detected. A computer inquiry revealed that Johnson had an active capias and was a person prohibited from possessing a firearm. Johnson was taken into custody without incident.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the following:
- approximately 307.99 grams of Marijuana
- a Taurus .357 caliber revolver loaded with 6 rounds
- Over $500.00 in suspected drug proceeds
- Drug Paraphernalia
Johnson was transported back to Troop 3 where he was charged with the following:
- Possession of a Firearm/Destructive Weapon If Previously Convicted of A Violent Felony
- Possession or Control of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited Prior Violent Crime or Felony
- Possession With Intent To Deliver a Controlled Substance
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Possession of a Deadly Weapon By Person Prohibit Who Also Possesses Controlled Substance
- Possession of Controlled Substance Tier 1 Quantity
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Driving While Suspended or Revoked
- Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession
- Improper Muffler
Johnson was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $55750.00 secured bond.
