*Update-Arrest Made* Troopers Investigating Shooting Incident – Middletown

Middletown- The Delaware State Police have arrested 55-year-old Derrick A. Rhamad of Middletown, in connection with a shooting incident.

The incident occurred on October 23, 2019 at approximately 2:25 p.m., when Troopers responded to a residence located in the 1800 block of Choptank Road, Middletown for a report of a shooting.  Troopers arrived on scene to find an adult male subject who had sustained a gunshot wound. He was treated on scene by EMS and then transported to the Christiana Hospital in critical condition.

Through further investigations, it was learned that Derrick Rhamad and his 20-year-old son, Damaris Farmer-Rhamad of Philadelphia, PA, had engaged in a physical altercation.  During this incident, Derrick Rhamad was in possession of a firearm and a struggle over the weapon ensued.  During the struggle the weapon was discharged, striking Damaris Farmer-Rhamad.

Damaris Farmer-Rhamad succumbed to his injuries on October 24, 2019.   The Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences determined that Damaris Farmer-Rhamad died as a result of a gunshot wound and it was determined that the manner and cause of death was homicide.

On January 31, 2020, Derrick A. Rhamad turned himself in at Troop 2 where he was charged with the following:

  • Murder Second Degree
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony

Derrick Rhamad was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $300000.00 cash only bond.
