New Castle – The Delaware State Police have arrested 46 year old Gregory D. Jones of New Castle, who was wanted on charges out of New Castle County Superior Court, after he barricaded himself inside a New Castle area residence for approximately 4 hours on Thursday morning.
At approximately 6:13 a.m., Thursday, January 30, 2020, Troopers executed a warrant at a residence located in the unit block of Bunker Hill Rd. in the development of Penn Acres South, New Castle after receiving information that Jones was inside. Upon Troopers entering the residence other occupants complied with requests to exit the home however Jones refused to surrender and subsequently barricaded himself inside the residence.
The Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT) secured the residence to contain Jones while members of the Conflict Management Team (CMT) attempted to communicate with him in an attempt to convince him to surrender peacefully.
When communications proved unsuccessful SORT deployed OC gas into the residence which resulted in Jones being apprehended without further incident.
Due to the nature of the incident evacuations at adjacent homes did occur. Additionally, and with the assistance of the New Castle County Police Department, who also had officers on scene, a reverse 911 call was made to further communicate with the community.
Jones was arraigned on the below New Castle County Superior charges and then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $500,000.00 cash bail:
