Troopers Arrest Camden Teen for Multiple Thefts-Kent County

Kent County- The Delaware State Police have arrested 18-year-old Robert M. Coombes Jr. in connection with multiple thefts.

During the months of November and December 2019, Troop 3 began investigating numerous cases in which packages were being stolen from victims’ front porches and/or mailboxes. During the same time frame, there was also a rash of thefts from unsecured motor vehicles occurring in the same areas. These crimes were occurring in areas of Kent County that stretched from Dover to Frederica.  Through various investigative measures, Troopers identified Coombes as the suspect.  Coombes was subsequently linked to a total of 11 theft cases.

On January 8, 2020, Coombes was taken into custody without incident at DMV, Dover and initially charged with three incidents.  He was arraigned and released on $8,500.00 unsecured bond.  On January 17, 2020 Coombes was charged with the additional eight theft incidents.  He was taken into custody while at the Court of Common Pleas without incident and transported back to Troop 3.

Coombes’s total charges included the following:

  • Theft (Felony) (3 counts)
  •  Attempted to Commit Theft Where a Victim is 62 Yrs of Age or Older (Felony)
  • Theft (7 counts)
  • Tampering With a Vehicle (3 counts)
  • Criminal Trespass Third Degree (6 counts)
  • Criminal Mischief

Coombes was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on his own recognizance.
