Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest-Smyrna

Smyrna– The Delaware State Police have arrested 27-year old Nakia Wiggins Jr. of Dover, DE after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs.

The incident occurred on November 12, 2019 at approximately 7:43 a.m., when Troopers observed a vehicle traveling on N. Dupont Highway, Smyrna with the operator utilizing their cell phone while driving.  A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, Nakia Wiggins.  Upon contact with Wiggins, Troopers detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.  A computer inquiry revealed that Wiggins did not have a valid driver’s license.  Also in the vehicle during this stop was a 7-year-old child.  A search of the vehicle revealed approximately .52 grams of marijuana, a burnt marijuana cigarette and trace amounts of crack cocaine.

Wiggins was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 3, where he was found in possession of approximately 8.81 grams of crack cocaine.

Wiggins was charged with the following:

  • Possession  with intent to deliver a controlled substance
  • Possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 1 quantity
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child
  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked
  • Private Use/Consumption of Marijuana
  • No person shall drive a motor vehicle on any highway while using electronic communication device

Wiggins was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on his own recognizance.
