Troopers Arrest Lewes Woman for 6th Offense DUI-Lewes

Lewes- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Lewes woman after she was found to be operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol for the 6th time.

The incident occurred on November 7, 2019 at approximately 9:37 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to an accident in the area of Conley Chapel Road south of Beaver Dam Road, Lewes. Upon arrival, Troopers discovered a dark gray GMC Sierra had been involved in a single vehicle crash where the vehicle traveled off the roadway and rolled over.  Upon contact with the driver of the Sierra, 56-year-old Cheryl S. Surber, an odor of alcohol was detected and a DUI investigation ensued.

Surber was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 7.  A computer check revealed that Surber had five previous DUI convictions, making this her 6th arrest.  Surber was charged with the following:

  • 6th Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked

She was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Delores Baylor Womens Correctional Institution on $7,000.00 cash only bond.
