Bear, Delaware – The Delaware State Police have arrested a Bear man for multiple crimes after a shots fired incident left a dog injured.
The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred on Sunday, September 15, 2019, at approximately 8:00 a.m., when troopers responded to a 9-1-1 call for a shots fired complaint at a residence in the 3800 block of Wrangle Hill Road, Bear. Upon arrival, it was learned a person in the area heard the gunfire and then heard a dog yelping and crying followed by a woman screaming. The investigation revealed the man who discharged the firearm as Jesse E. Davis, 24 of Bear, and did so in the presence of a 23-year-old female victim and struck a four-month-old puppy in the neck. The female victim was not injured.
After the injured dog was located hiding under a stack of wood pallets in the backyard, Delaware Animal Services was contacted and responded to the scene. The dog, named Nova appeared to be a black and tan German Shepherd-Husky mix. Delaware Animal Services transported the injured dog to Newark VCA after being treated at the scene.
The firearm was located at the scene and seized as evidence.
The suspect, Jesse E. Davis, who appeared to be intoxicated was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with Reckless Endangering 1st Degree, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony and Cruelly or Unnecessarily Injuring Any Animal and Discharging a Firearm within 15 Yards of a Public Roadway. He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in default of $36,050 secured bail.
