Newark – The Delaware State Police have charged 33 year old Antwan R. Bonaparte of Newark with multiple felonies, stemming from a shots fired incident that occurred Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at approximately 6:24 a.m., Troopers responded to a residence located in the 500 block of Salem Church Rd., in regards to a vehicle that had sustained damage from suspected gunshots. Upon arrival they located the vehicle which was confirmed to have been shot multiple times, damaging the body and shattering a window. The initial investigation determined that the damage occurred during the overnight hours, however no gunshots were heard by the vehicle owner at the time, and they only discovered the damage upon getting into the vehicle in the morning.

During a canvass of the area Troopers were able to locate multiple empty shell casings on the porch of an adjacent residence. Through further investigation by detectives from the Troop 2 Major Crimes Unit, it was determined that Bonaparte, who resides in the home where the shell casings were located, was responsible for the shooting. It was also determined that in addition to the shots that were fired at the vehicle, Bonaparte also fired multiple rounds while inside his residence, which endangered other occupants who were present at the time. At some point after the incident Bonaparte had fled the residence and was not present upon the Troopers arrival. There were no injuries as a result of any of the gunshots.

A subsequent search of Bonaparte’s bedroom produced a combined total of 18 grams of cocaine which was packaged for sale as well as .112 grams of heroin, which was packaged in 16 individual bags. No firearms were located at this time.

On Thursday, August 22, Bonaparte turned himself in at Troop 2 in regards to the incident, at which time he was formally charged with the following:

• Reckless Endangering 1^st Degree (4 counts)
• Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
• Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
• Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance Tier 2 Quantity
• Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity
• Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription
• Criminal Mischief

Bonaparte was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released after posting $22,500.00 cash bail.
