Date Posted: Thursday, June 13th, 2019

Bridgeville- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Bridgeville man in connection with a domestic related assault involving a weapon.

The incident occurred on April 19, 2019 at approximately 2:44 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to a farm field in the area of Craft Road, Bridgeville for a report of a domestic.  Upon arrival, Troopers located a female victim who advised that her boyfriend, 38 year-old Kenneth McDowell drove her to the area and pointed a gun at her while threatening to kill her.  Troopers located McDowell on the property at this time, along with his 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

During a subsequent interview, the victim later indicated that McDowell had physically assaulted her, pulled out a handgun and fired the gun off next to her in close proximity.

On May 25, 2019, Troopers executed a search warrant at a shed where the victim advised McDowell had fired the gun.  Troopers recovered a .380 caliber shell casing from the scene. A Ruger LCP .380 caliber handgun was also later recovered from McDowell.

On June 7, 2019, with the assistance of the Attorney General’s Office, Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for McDowell charging him with the following:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Aggravated Menacing
  • Assault Third Degree
  • Terroristic Threatening

On June 10, 2019, McDowell was taken into custody in the Dover area without incident.  He was transported back to Troop 4, where he was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $32,000.00 secured bond.
