Millville- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred last evening.
The incident occurred on May 22, 2019 at approximately 8:05 p.m., when a 2018 Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on Roxana Road (SR 17) north of Powell Farm Road and had stopped in the travel lane with the left turn signal activated waiting to turn left into a commercial business entrance. A 2013 GMC Acadia was traveling southbound on SR 17 approaching the Corolla. The operator of the Corolla proceeded to turn left into the path of the Acadia. As a result, the front of the Acadia struck the right side of the Corolla for impact within the southbound lane.
The operator of the Corolla, a 57-year-old male of New Hope, PA was properly restrained and not injured in the collision. The front seat passenger, a 59-year-old female of Frankford, DE was properly restrained and not injured. A rear seat passenger, a 78-year-old female of Philadelphia, PA was properly restrained. She sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Beebe Medical Center and later transferred to the Christina Hospital. A second rear seat passenger, an 81-year-old female of New Hope, PA was properly restrained and sustained serious injuries. She was transported to the Beebe Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Her name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.
The operator of the Acadia, a 28-year-old female of Selbyville, DE was properly restrained and not injured in the collision. A front seat passenger and two rear seat children passengers were also in the vehicle, properly restrained and did not sustain injuries as a result of the collision.
Roxana Road was closed for approximately 1.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.
