Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest – Dagsboro

Dagsboro – The Delaware State Police have charged 24 year old Devontay D. Jones of Laurel with multiple drug related offenses as a result of a traffic stop that took place in Dagsboro, Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:26 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2019 when a Trooper on routine patrol observed a gray, Chevy Trailblazer run a stop sign at the intersection of E. Diamond St. and Power Plant Rd., in Dagsboro. The Trooper stopped the vehicle on Adams Rd., just south of Bunting Rd. and made contact with Jones, who was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. Upon making contact with Jones, the Trooper could smell an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A subsequent search of Jones’ person and the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 279 baggies of heroin, with a total weight of 1.953 grams, 1.38 grams of marijuana, and $1771.00 in suspected drug proceeds.

Jones was taken in to custody without incident and transported to Troop 4 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 1 Quantity
  • Maintaining a Drug Property
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (3 counts)
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign

Jones was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #3 and then committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $35,500.00 secured bail.
