Troopers Investigating Serious Crash Involving a Pedestrian – New Castle

New Castle – The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 10:26 p.m., Thursday, January 31, 2019, on I-495 northbound, north of Rogers Rd.

The initial investigation has determined that an unidentified male pedestrian was attempting to cross the I-495 northbound lanes from the right shoulder towards the center median when he was struck in the left travel lane by a 2008 Pontiac G6, operated by a 37 year old Wilmington man.

The pedestrian was transported to the Christiana Hospital in critical condition. Impairment on his behalf is undetermined at this time.

The driver of the Pontiac along with a 30 year old female, front seat passenger were treated for minor injuries.

Neither speed nor impairment are contributing factors on behalf of the driver.

I-495 northbound was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
