Troopers Investigating Attempted Purse Snatching – Wilmington

 

Wilmington (19805) – The Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted purse snatching that took place Tuesday afternoon in Wilmington.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m., Tuesday, January, 1, 2019 in the 1600 block of Kirkwood Hwy, as an 18 year old Elsmere woman was walking westbound on the sidewalk, in front of the VA Hospital. A male suspect walking eastbound approached the victim and attempted to engage her in a conversation. The victim refused to do so and continued walking. The suspect then approached the suspect from behind and attempted to grab her purse. A struggle over the purse ensued, with the victim retaining possession. The suspect then fled on foot across Kirkwood Hwy., towards Maple Ave. The victim was treated at an area hospital for a laceration to her hand, sustained during the altercation.

The suspect was described as white male, 20-30 years of age 5’7″-5’9″, clean shaven with short hair.
