Multi-Agency Crime Blitz Results in Mass Arrests

Wilmington/Newport– A multi-agency operation conducted on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at targeted locations throughout greater Wilmington has resulted in the arrest of 37 individuals on criminal charges.

This crime blitz focused on the Kirkwood Hwy., Maryland Ave. and Churchman’s Rd. corridors as well as the greater Newport vicinity. The operation was conducted in these areas to target criminal activity and to address ongoing quality of life issues.

During the eight hour enforcement blitz, police arrested 37 individuals for either a criminal charge or outstanding court capias, resulting in the clearance of 54 active warrants. There were a total of 112 traffic and 27 criminal arrests made.

Seized during the operation was 57.189 grams of Heroin, 777.2 grams of Marijuana, 1.0 grams of Cocaine, 8 prescription pills along with an assortment of drug paraphernalia. Also seized was $2,043.00 in suspected drug proceeds and a 2013 Toyota Avalon, suspected to be associated with illegal drug activity.

This initiative was a collaborative effort between the Delaware State Police, Governor’s Task Force, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Probation and Parole, New Castle County Police Department, Wilmington Police Department, Newport Police Department, Department of Corrections and Justice of the Peace Courts.

This combined effort highlights how the cooperation of multiple law enforcement agencies can effectively combat crime which in turn increases the quality of life for the communities we serve.
