Troopers Arrest Two on Burglary and Assault Charges-Delmar

Delmar- The Delaware State Police have arrested two suspects for burglary and assault charges.

The incident occurred on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at approximately 3:30 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the 36000 block of  Red Berry Road for a domestic related incident.  Further investigation revealed that earlier in the day, messages between family members were posted on social media, which led to 35- year-old Christopher Benson becoming angry.  Benson proceeded to respond to his brother’s residence to confront him.  Upon his arrival to the residence, he was met by his brother’s wife who opened the front door to tell him to leave the property.  Benson pushed the female out of the way and entered the house.  Upon his entry, he located his brother and began physically assaulting him.  While the wife was attempting to break up the altercation, Benson’s girlfriend, 26-year-old Andrea Hockenberry entered the house without permission and began engaging in the fight.  Following the altercation it was discovered that tw0 railing banisters inside of the residence were damaged.

Eventually the altercation ceased and both Benson and Hockenberry left the residence.  The 42-year-old male victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene.  His wife was not injured as a result of this incident.

Both Benson and Hockenberry were located a short time later at their residence in the 34000 block of Bistate Boulavard, Delmar.   They were taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 5.

Christopher Benson was charged with the following:

  • Burglary Second Degree
  • Conspiracy Second Degree
  • Assault Third Degree
  • Offensive Touching
  • Criminal Mischief

He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $8,000.00 secured bond.

Andrea Hockenberry was charged with the following:

  • Burglary Second Degree
  • Conspiracy Second Degree
  • Assault Third Degree

She was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $7,000.00 unsecured bond.
