Troopers Investigating Gas Station Parking Lot Robbery – Newark

Newark (19713) – The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place in the parking lot of a Newark area gas station, just after midnight on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:57 a.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2018 in the parking lot of the Exxon gas station located at 263 E. Chestnut Hill Road, Newark. A 25 year old Wilmington man was seated in his vehicle after making a purchase, when he was approached by a subject who asked to borrow some money. The male victim complied with the request and voluntarily gave the subject a small amount of money. The subject then requested more money, however the victim refused at which time the subject forcibly grabbed the remaining amount of money from the victim’s hand. As the subject was running away with the money he displayed a handgun and threatened the victim. The subject then entered a blue, unknown make and model SUV and fled the parking lot. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspect was described as a black male, 5’8”, wearing a multi-colored hoodie.
