Delaware State Trooper Receives Award

Presented by the Director of Public Information Sergeant Richard D. Bratz

On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, Captain Jennifer Griffin was one of four recipients of the Whitney Young Service Award presented by the Del-Mar-Va Council for the Boy Scouts of America. Each recipient was chosen for their outstanding service as evidenced by the interest and leadership he or she has given to many worthwhile organizations as well as the respect and esteem in which he or she is held by their colleagues.

Captain Griffin was selected based on a bicycle program she initiated with a Wilmington based Boy Scout Troop.  Captain Griffin identified bicycles, which had been recovered but had no identifiable owner.  After the requisite amount of time had passed, Captain Griffin donated these bikes to Scouts who could refurbish them and perhaps now have their first bike.  Captain Griffin, when presented with the award, spoke to the shared values of the Delaware State Police and Scouting and how rewarding it was to see these young Scouts be given “a bike” and with a little hard work, make it “their bike”.

“These innovative ideas are a great representation of the good work being done around the state” -Major Melissa Zebley, Delaware State Police New Castle County Operations Officer.
