Troopers Arrest Two After Drug Investigation

Newark – The Delaware State Police New Castle County Drug Unit have arrested two people after the culmination of a two month long investigation into illegal drug sales which had been occurring in the county.

On Tuesday, May 2, 2017, the New Castle County Drug Unit, with the assistance of the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force, executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 700 block of Coventry Lane, Newark, in reference to complaints of illegal drug sales which had been occurring. Upon their arrival, detectives took Kathy Duke, 31, into custody without incident. A second resident of the home, Gary Steadman, 51, was stopped by detectives as he operated a car in the parking lot of the University Plaza Shopping Center, Newark. A second search warrant was executed on his vehicle as well.

As a result of the searches detectives were able to seize 136 grams of heroin, 29 grams of marijuana, 2 grams of cocaine, and $782.00 in suspected drug sale proceeds.

Gary Steadman and Kathy Duke were transported to Troop 2 where they were both arrested and charged with four counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 5 Quantity, four counts of Possession with the Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 4 Quantity, and four counts of Conspiracy 2nd Degree. They were then arraigned at JP Court 11. Gary Steadman was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution in default of $448,000.00 cash bail. Kathy Duke was committed to the Delores Baylor Correctional Institution in default of $448,000.00 cash bail as well.
