The Delaware State Police employs over 200 civilian (non-merit system) employees who support the uniformed troopers by performing clerical functions,telecommunications, fingerprint identification, criminal history verification, victim services, automotive maintenance, administrative positions such as human resources, information support services, and fiscal management as a well as positions in our crime lab . One of the largest sections staffed by civilian employees is the State Bureau of Identification, located in Dover on the Headquarters/Administration Complex. The following positions are located at the SBI building and require a minimum of a high school education (or GED) and computer skills. There are both day shift and evening shifts.

Another large component of civilian positions is the telecommunications field.  Telecommunications Specialists in our Communications Section work in the Public Safety Answering Points (911 centers and HQ Communications).  They perform duties of answering emergency calls, relaying information to uniformed officers via computers, two-way radios, telephones, and ensuring accurate communications with other agency emergency responders.  The telecommunications specialists require working a rotating shift, weekends, and holidays.  There are PSAP's in all three counties.  A minimum of a high school diploma (or GED), computer skillls and the ability to speak clearly over the radio and telephone is required.

The Telecommunications Specialists who work in the data communications center located in the Delaware Emergency Management Center in Smyrna, input/monitor information in the computerized system that links all the criminal justice agencies nationwide. These positions also require working a rotating shift, weekends, and holidays. A minimum of a high school diploma (or GED), computer skills and the ability to speak clearly over the radio and telephone is required.  Click on the position below to get a complete job description.
