Released-Tuesday, June 24, 2008
Newark-Shortly
after 9:00 this morning, Troop 2 troopers responded to the area of
US 40 and Walther Road in reference to a personal injury crash.
An
investigation revealed that a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier (operated by
Kathleen Iffland, 47, of Wilmington) was stopped for a red light,
eastbound on US 40 in the left lane. A 2002 GMC Sierra pick –up
truck (operated by Warren G. Hughart 3rd of Townsend) was
traveling directly behind the Cavalier. The front of the pick-up
truck collided with the rear of the cavalier.
Ms. Iffland had
to be extricated from her vehicle, after which, she and Mr. Hughart
were transported by ambulance to Christiana Hospital.
Iffland and
Hughart were treated and later released with non-life threatening
injuries.
Ms. Iffland was
wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. Mr. Hughart was not
wearing his seatbelt and he was subsequently cited for inattentive
driving and for not wearing his seat belt.
The crash shut
down traffic on eastbound Route 40 for approximately 25 minutes.
Alcohol does
not appear to be a factor in the crash. |
