Preliminary Release - State Police Investigating Fatal Crash

Released Friday, June 20, 2008

Felton – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred today at 12:05 pm. Troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash on US 13 southbound at W. Evans Road.

Investigators have determined that a 2008 Lexus 4-door sedan was traveling southbound in the right lane approaching a red light at the intersection of 13 and W. Evans Road. A second vehicle, a 1992 Ford Pick-up, was traveling behind the Lexus and failed to slow down and stop behind the Lexus.

As a result, the Pick-up struck the Lexus in the rear causing the crash. The operator of the Lexus and two additional passengers were taken to Kent General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. A third passenger in the Lexus was flown to Christiana Hospital where they died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The operator of the Pick-up was also taken to Kent General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The roadway was limited to one lane of travel as investigators examined the crash scene and has since been reopened. This is an ongoing investigation and when additional information is learned, including the names of persons involved, it will be released to the media.
