New Castle -
The Delaware State Police are
providing additional details on this crash. Troopers learned
a 1995 Chevy Lumina, operated by an unknown black male
subject, was traveling northbound in the left turn lane of
US 13 in the area of School Lane. The Lumina failed to stop
for traffic that was in front of this vehicle and struck the
rear of a 2003 Chevy Malibu, which was operated by Vera
Garyeazon, 39 of Smyrna.
Because of
this, the Malibu moved forward and struck a 2006 Mercedes
SLK 280 that was also in the turn lane, operated by Donna L.
Filer, 53 of Wilmington. The Mercedes then struck a 1990
Toyota Corolla that was also in the turn lane, operated by
Mwilima Kalunga, 37 of Newark.
After the
crash, the operator of the Chevy Lumina - the vehicle that
caused the crash, fled the scene northbound on US 13.
Witnesses reported the vehicle became disabled in the area
of 13 northbound at Wilmington University. The driver was
observed fleeing on foot into Wilmington Manor. The police
have recovered the vehicle.
All other
parties, including a 2-year-old child that was in the Toyota
Corolla, were injured and transported to Christiana Hospital
for non-life threatening injuries. Police are asking anyone
with information on the driver whop fled the scene to call
investigators at Troop # 2 at 302.834.2620 or Crime Stoppers
at 1.800.TIP.3333. Alcohol was not a factor on the persons
who remained at the scene. Seatbelt use is unknown.
