Critically Injured in Morning Crash

The Delaware State Police
Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating an early morning
crash that closed SR 1 in the area of RT 16 for an hour.
Investigators learned the crash
occurred at approximately 6:44 am after a 2008, Dodge Dakota
pick-up, operated by Gordon B Carney, 65 of Rehoboth Beach,
struck a vehicle in front of him setting off a chain reaction in
which three additional vehicles were hit. Mr. Carney was not
injured.
The Dodge pick –up rear ended a
2008 Ford Focus that was stopped in the right lane for traffic
because of the red light at SR 1 @ SR 16. The operator of the
Focus, Christopher Saulsbury, 55 of Lewes, was critically
injured and flown to Christiana Hospital and is in critical
condition.
As a result of the impact, the
Focus moved forward striking the vehicle in front of it, a 2006
Pontiac Torrent. Terry L. Holton, 47 of Milton, operated this
vehicle. She was treated and released from Beebe Hospital for
minor injuries.
The Torrent then moved forward
striking a 2006 Honda SUV, operated by Mario Disabatino, 65 of
Lewes. Mr. Disabatino was not injured. All parties were wearing
seatbelts and alcohol is not a factor.
Due to the crash, RT 1 northbound
was closed for approximately 1 hour as investigators examined
the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
