Milton Man Charged with Attempted Murder Released Sunday, June 01, 2008 Lewes – The Delaware State Police have arrested a 23-year-old Milton resident for attempted murder and weapons charges after he stabbed a 25-year-old Harbeson man during an apparent domestic violence incident. Troopers were notified of the incident this morning at approximately 2:25 am by staff at Beebe Hospital after the victim came in the emergency room with six stab wounds to the abdomen and chest area. Detectives learned that earlier this morning at approximately 1:30 am, the victim was in the parking lot of the Village of Five Points with a 22-year-old female friend from Rehoboth Beach. The pair had just returned from driving around the area in the female’s car when she was dropping the victim off at his vehicle, which was parked in the parking lot. After the victim got out of the friends car, he was confronted by Michael J. Berardinelli, 23 of Green Valley Run, Milton. The two engaged in a physical altercation when Mr. Berardinelli stabbed the victim 6 times with a knife in the abdomen and chest area. After the stabbing, the victim drove himself to Beebe Hospital where he has been admitted for his injuries and is currently in stable condition. During the investigation, the detectives learned that Mr. Berardinelli and the female friend are boyfriend and girlfriend. Investigators also learned the victim and the female companion had a previous relationship and are currently friends. This appears to the motive for the attack – Mr. Berardinelli was upset his girlfriend was with the victim. As the investigation ensued, troopers responded to the residence of Berardinelli and located him and the female companion. He was taken into custody without incident. The weapon used and bloody clothing was also recovered. As a result of the incident, Mr. Berardinelli has been charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Felony. He has been remanded to the Sussex Correctional Center in lieu of bail.
