Superintendent Receives Organization’s Top Award -
Colonel Thomas F. MacLeish has been
named Delaware’s “Torch Runner-of-the-Year.”

Dover - Each year Delaware Law
Enforcement for Special Olympics (LESO) selects an officer
for this top honor. As a consummate volunteer and a diplomat for
Special Olympics one of the honors and privileges of being named
‘Torch Runner-of-the-Year’ is the recipient delivers the Flame of
Hope to the Special Olympics Delaware Athlete of the Year during the
Opening Ceremonies of Summer Games.
Delaware State
Police Superintendent Tom Mac Leish’s volunteer efforts with Special
Olympics Delaware started over twenty years ago, long before his
rise to one of the state’s top Law Enforcement positions. Through
the years he has presented medals at games, directed and organized
the safety components of the annual Lewes Polar Bear Plunge,
participated in several fundraising events, and runs in the
actual Torch Run each June to raise money and awareness for the
organization. Today, he remains more active than ever as a volunteer
for the organization.
Mac Leish will
officially be honored at the Chiefs of Police meeting on
Tuesday, April 8th, in the Community Room of the Dover
Police Department. The brief ceremony will be at 10:00am and
he will be available for interviews immediately following.
Special
Olympics Delaware Law Enforcement Torch Run is a yearlong effort to
raise money and awareness for the organization. Throughout the year,
over 550 law enforcement officers participate in various Torch Run
activities. With more than 60 of Delaware’s Law Enforcement agencies
involved in the Torch Run, over 25% of all police officers in the
state participate. |
