Harbeson
– The Delaware State Police are investigating an overnight crash
that claimed the life of a 26 year old Georgetown man.
Early this
morning at approximately 1:31 am, a trooper on patrol was traveling
westbound on SR 9 just west of Hudson Road when they came upon a
single vehicle crash. The operator of the vehicle was deceased.
The
investigation revealed a 1995 Ford Mustang, operated by the
Georgetown man, was traveling westbound on SR 9 when it crossed over
the opposite lane of travel and exited the south edge of the
roadway. The Mustang then struck a tree. The operator who was not
wearing a seatbelt died from injuries sustained.
Investigators
believe that speed and weather conditions were contributing factors
to the crash. Due to the recent snow fall in the area the roadway
did have ice and snow on it. Alcohol use is currently unknown and
the crash remains under investigation. The identity of the operator
will be released later today after authorities conclude next of kin
notifications.
