Millsboro Man Injured After Crashing into House

Released Saturday, January 17, 2009

Millsboro – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a crash that resulted after a 75 year old Millsboro resident drove his pick-up truck through the front porch of Clark Avenue home.

Troopers responded to 28483 Clarke Avenue, Oak Orchard area, at 2:30 pm today after it was reported a 2004 Dodge Ram pick-up struck the two-story unoccupied home. Investigators learned the vehicle, which was operated by William R. Greenwald, was traveling southbound on Clarke Avenue when it veered off the east edge of the road and struck the home. After impacting the front porch the truck continued through the front yard overturning onto the driver’s side.

As a result of the crash, Mr. Greenwald sustained serious injuries and was flown by DSP helicopter to Christiana Hospital. It should be known the injuries are not life-threatening.

Preliminary investigation suggests an unknown medical condition may have contributed to the crash.

Alcohol is not suspected as a factor and seatbelt use is currently unknown. Due to the severe damage to the home, County code enforcement officials have responded to the scene to assess the conditions.

The crash remains under investigation.
