Beach – The Delaware
State Police have arrested a 43-year-old Georgetown man for numerous
robbery related charges for his role in a recent robbery of a
Wendy’s restaurant in December. In addition, detectives linked the
man to another robbery of a Walgreens Pharmacy on December 26, 2008.
The case was
solved after detectives were investigating a robbery of a Pharmacy
located in the Walgreens at 26191 John J. Williams Hwy in Long Neck.
In this incident, the suspect, later identified as Michael S.
Miller, 43 of Avalon Drive, Georgetown, entered the store at 11:02
am and confronted a pharmacist demanding Percocet pills. Miller
displayed a note that implied he had a gun (none displayed) and the
pharmacist complied with the demands and gave Miller approximately
300 Percocet pills.
Miller then
fled the store on foot and was observed by witnesses entering a
white van with “A1” on the side of it. The witnesses also got the
registration number and provided it to police. The registration to
the vehicle led detectives to Miller as the van was registered to
his address. As investigators continued the investigation, a
photograph of Miller was obtained and the pharmacist and other
witnesses positively identified Miller as the culprit. Additionally,
surveillance video was captured that also positively identified
Miller wearing a camouflage jacket. This clothing description
matched that of the suspect in the Wendy’s robbery that occurred on
December 21.
Armed with this
information, detectives obtained a search warrant for Miller’s
residence and executed it on January 5, 2009 at 10:30 am. Miller was
taken into custody at this time without incident. A subsequent
search yielded a camouflage jacket, black ski mask, empty Walgreen’s
pill containers and a .12 gauge Mossberg shotgun.
Consequently,
Miller was arrested for two counts of Robbery First Degree, Wearing
a Disguise during the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Deadly
Weapon by Person Prohibited, Theft, Terroristic Threatening and
Menacing. Miller was remanded to the Sussex Correctional Center in
default of a $56,500 secured bond.
