Released
Friday, October 10, 2008
Dover
– The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a serious
crash that occurred today at 11:50 pm on Hazletville Rd west of
Wyoming Mill road.
Troopers
determined a 2008 KW Petroleum truck, owned by Poores Propane,
operated by James C. Reed, 50 of Clayton was traveling eastbound on
Hazletville Rd in a curve in the roadway. A 2001 Chrysler PT
Cruiser, operated by Donald H. Stump, 57 of Dover was travelling
westbound on Hazletville Rd when it entered the same curve.
The PT cruiser
failed to remain in their lane of travel and crossed the double
yellow line sideswiping the propane truck. As a result, the propane
truck overturned damaging the tank causing some of its contents
(propane) to leak out. The operator, Mr. Reed, was wearing a
seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. He was taken to Kent General
Hospital by ambulance. Alcohol is not a factor on his behalf.
The operator of
the PT Cruiser, Mr. Stump, was seriously injured and flown by DSP
helicopter to Christiana Hospital. Seatbelt use and alcohol use are
currently unknown on his behalf.
Officials from
DNREC and the Camden Wyoming Fire Department are on scene
controlling the spilled propane. The roadway is currently closed and
is expected to be reopened within the hour. The crash remains under
investigation
