Dover
– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is
investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred toady on Nault
Rd just north of Hazletville Road. A trooper who was on routine
patrol was traveling southbound on Nault Road when he observed a
motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed passing vehicles. The
motorcycle sped away out of the trooper’s sight.
As the trooper
continued on Nault Road (not engaged in any pursuit), at
approximately 2:46 pm, he encountered the motorcycle had crashed in
a curve. The trooper observed the male driver lying next to a
telephone pole and the motorcycle in a cornfield. Several witnesses
that were in the immediate area informed investigators that the
motorcyclist was traveling at an extreme high rate of speed and
could not negotiate the left-hand curve. As a result, the bike left
the west edge of the road and struck a ditch ejecting the operator.
The operator, a
25-year-old Clayton man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The name
of the deceased man is being withheld pending notification of next
of kin. The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol use is
unknown and the operator was wearing a helmet. The roadway was
closed for approximately 2 hours and has since been reopened. |
