Kenton –
A female motorcyclist was severely injured after being struck by a
pick up truck east of Kenton.
At
approximately 11:49 a.m., Troopers along with Emergency Medical
Personnel responded to the area of Mt. Friendship Road (SR 15) and
Wheatleys Pond Road (SR 300) two miles east of Kenton for a serious
personal injury collision involving a motorcycle.
The
investigation revealed that a 17 year old Dover man was operating a
2001 Mazda pick up truck traveling westbound on Wheatleys Pond Road.
He was attempting to turn southbound on Mt. Friendship Road when he
cut the corner too sharp and struck a motorcycle being operated by
Suzanne Potter, 45, of Smyrna.
The impact
ejected Ms. Potter from the motorcycle striking her head on the
ground. Ms. Potter, who was not wearing a helmet, was flown to
Christiana Hospital by Delaware State Police Helicopter where she is
being treated for life threatening injuries.
Seatbelts
were used by the pick up truck operator. Alcohol was not a factor.
Charges are
pending and the investigation has been turned over the State Police
Collision Reconstruction Unit out of Troop 3.
