Released –
Monday, July 14, 2008 (2:09 p.m.)
Dover –
The following is an
account of the crash that occurred earlier this afternoon on
Pearsons Corner Road and West Denneys Road.
At
approximately 10:50 a.m. a 2002 Chevrolet 6 – wheel tanker truck
(operated by David A. Collins, 44, of Camden - Wyoming,
Delaware and owned by C.L. Burchenal Oil of Camden) was traveling
northbound on Pearsons Corner Road just south of West Denneys Road.
The operator apparently drifted off the right shoulder of the
roadway causing the truck to go down into a drainage ditch. The
truck then overturned into the embankment on the side of the road.
The tanker truck was carrying approximately 1000 gallons of fuel oil
as well as 350 gallons of kerosene. Division of Natural Resources
responded to the scene as there was approximately 30 gallons of
kerosene leaking from the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the kerosene
was contained and clean up was completed. After transferring the
remainder of the fuel oil and kerosene to another truck, the roadway
will be reopened within the hour.
No other
vehicles were involved. Alcohol was not a factor and it is
undetermined if seatbelts were used.
Mr. Collins
was cited by Troopers for Failure to Remain in Lane.
