***UPDATED RELEASE*** Released-Monday, June 23, 2008 Smyrna-Authorities have made notification to the next of kin of the operator involved in the Raymond Neck Road fatal crash from last evening. Donald J. Cote, 48 of Smyrna was operating the 2001 Kia Sportage at the time of the crash. This crash remains under investigation. ___________________________________________________________________________________ ***Preliminary Release*** State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Raymond Neck Road Released-Monday, June 23, 2008 Smyrna-The State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is currently investigating a single vehicle crash which occurred on Raymond Neck Road shortly after 8:00 p.m. last evening. The vehicle involved, a 2001 Kia Sportage, was traveling eastbound on Raymond Neck Road east of Hay Point Landing Road. For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the south edge of Raymond Neck Road, at which time it struck a ditch then went airborne. The vehicle came to a stop in the roadway. The operator was not seat belted and was thrown from the vehicle. The operator was transported by ambulance to Kent General Hospital where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. The name of the deceased will be released once next of kin has been notified. This crash remains under investigation. It is unknown if alcohol played a role in this crash. The road was shut down for approximately two hours. An updated release will follow when additional information pertaining to this incident is known and confirmed. |
