Released- Sunday, May 25, 2008

Kent County- On today's date, at approximately 1:54 p.m., Troopers responded to the area of US 113(State Route 1) at Trap Shooters Road, 1 mile south of Dover, for the report of a fatal crash.

A 2005 Ford Freestar Minivan (operated by Darryl V. Mifflin, 52, of Milton) was southbound on US 113 in left lane crossing Barkers Landing Bridge. A 2006 Suzuki SMK motorcycle (operated by Stephen Reed, 32, of Dover) was attempting to enter US 113 southbound from Trap Shooters Road. Mr. Reed lost control of the motorcycle and laid it down entering the southbound lanes and into the path of the Ford. Mr. Mifflin swerved right, however, was unable to avoid the bike, striking Reed.

Mr. Reed was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified of his death. Mr. Mifflin was not injured. Alcohol is not a factor. Mr. Reed was wearing a helmet. Mr. Mifflin was wearing his seat-belt.

The southbound lanes of US 113 was closed for 3 hours. No charges have been filed and this crash remains under investigation.
