Update: State Police Arrest Trooper for Involvement in Robbery
Released Tuesday,
March 4, 2008
Dover
– The
Delaware State Police (DSP), in conjunction with the Delaware
Attorney Generals Office, are announcing the arrest of a HyunJin
Kim, 27 of Dover for his involvement in a Robbery that occurred last
month at the Wild Quail Golf and Country Club.
Mr. Kim has been employed as a Delaware State Trooper for 2 ½ years
and is assigned to the patrol division at Troop #3 in Woodside. His
arrest stems from the investigative efforts of Major Crime’s
detectives who have been aggressively pursuing this case since it
occurred.
During the investigation, Troopers learned that Mr. Kim was an
alleged victim in the Robbery; however, he left the crime scene
before police arrived. As evidence technicians examined the crime
scene, Troopers were able to recover evidence. A careful examination
of the evidence led investigators to believe it was recently
purchased prompting police to check area businesses in an effort to
locate stores that may have sold the recovered items.
Through their investigation, Troopers successfully discovered the
items were purchased from the Camden Wal-Mart. With the assistance
of Wal-Mart security personnel, troopers were able to locate
photographs of subjects purchasing similar items matching those
found at the crime scene. After reviewing these photographs,
troopers were able to identify Mr. Kim as a suspect.
Yesterday, detectives obtained search warrants for Mr. Kim’s
residence and vehicle of which they successfully located evidence
indicating his involvement to the crime. As a result of these
findings Mr. Kim was charged with the following crimes: 11 counts of
Robbery First Degree (F), Wearing a disguise in the commission of a
felony (F), Possession of a firearm during the commission of a
felony (F), Conspiracy Second Degree (F) and Offensive touching (M).
He has been committed to a correctional center in Delaware in lieu
of a $240,000 cash only bond.
Because of his arrest, Mr. Kim has been suspended from the Delaware
State Police. This investigation is ongoing and when additional
information regarding the other suspects becomes available, it will
be released to the media.
