Update #2- The Hunch was Right On

Bear Area Bank Robbery

Released- Friday, June 27, 2008

Bear- Investigators had a hunch the bank robber was still in Becks Woods and they turned out to be right. On today’s date, the Delaware State Police has arrested Lamir Handy, 21, of Grand Teton Court, in Becks Woods, in Bear, in connection to the Bank Robbery yesterday at the WSFS in the Fox Run Shopping Center.

Late last evening, investigators received a tip call in which the Handy was named as the suspect in this heist. Investigators also learned that he was still in Becks Woods and had hid the car, a black Honda Accord, in his garage on Grand Teton Drive. Detectives converged on the residence and took Handy into custody without incident. A computer check also revealed he was on probation.

Lamir Handy was formally charged this morning with Robbery 1st and Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Felony. He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $60,000.00 cash only bail.

Investigators are asking anyone who had seen Handy after the robbery to call them at 302-834-2630 ext 6.

Bear Area Bank Robbery

Released- Thursday, June 26, 2008

Bear- On today’s date, at approximately 12:00 noon, Troopers were called to the WSFS Bank located in the Fox Run Shopping Center in reference to an armed bank robbery.

This investigation revealed a male suspect literally ran into the bank, jumped over the service counter and held the tellers at bay with a shotgun.  The suspect had one of the clerks load an undisclosed amount of money into a backpack.  The suspect ran out of the bank as quickly as he came in.  He fled eastbound on Route 40 operating a dark colored mid-90’s Honda.

The suspect was believed to have possibly fled into the development of Becks Woods.  State Troopers, accompanied by New Castle County Police Officers, searched the area; however, the suspect was not located.  The search was cancelled at approximately 1:30 p.m.  The New Castle County Police issued a reverse 911 call to the residents of Becks Woods to make them aware of the situation.

The suspect is described as a black male, 6’01” to 6’03” tall, thin build, black hat, boots, and dark sweat-shirt.  He was armed with a shotgun.

Anyone with information pertaining to this case is asked to call investigators at 302.834.2630 ext 6 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.TIP.3333.

There are no pictures to disseminate at this time.  As soon as they are available, they will be provided to the media.
