Subjects Sought on Theft Warrants

New Castle County- The Delaware State Police has been
working a series of criminal cases in which citizens have been
victimized as their cars have been broken into and property stolen
from within. • On May 12th, a 1997 Lexus was broken into while
parked on the property of 403 Meco Drive in Wilmington. A GPS unit
was stolen from within. • On May 20th, a 2008 Toyota Sienna was
broken into while parked at the Western YMCA, located at 2600
Capitol Trail. A purse was stolen from within along with the
victim’s credit cards and her cash. • On May 26th, a 1995 Volkswagon
Golf was broken into while parked at the Sheridan Ford, located at
4001 Kirkwood Highway. A video radio was stolen from within.
Troopers vigorously worked these cases and potential suspects
were developed. The name of Toby Smokovich, 21, of Chalet Drive in
Wilmington, came up during the investigation. Troopers matched
pictures of Smokovich on file to that of surveillance video from
these incidents and confirmed the images as being one in the same.
Originally, Smokovich was implicated in the first two incidents:
May the 12th and 20th. He was arrested May 31st and June 2nd on
those cases and charged in total with two counts of Theft
(misdemeanor), two counts of Criminal Mischief (misdemeanor), two
counts of Conspiracy 3rd (misdemeanor) and two counts of Criminal
Trespass 3rd (misdemeanor). He was released on $1,250.00 unsecured
bond.
Since his last arrest on June 2nd, Smokovich was also implicated
in the case which occurred on May 26th. He has yet to turn himself
in. Also, a co-conspirator was also identified- Brad Edwards, 28, of
Chalet Drive in Wilmington. Edwards is wanted on all of the
aforementioned cases and has yet to have been apprehended.
