on ChaseReleased- Saturday, May 24, 2008
Sussex County- On today's date, at approximately 9:27 a.m.,
Troopers from Troop 7 were conducting speed enforcement on State
Route 1 north of Route 16. A 1989 Dodge Daytona came through radar
at 82 in a 55 mile per hour zone. A Trooper who was out of his car,
walked toward the roadway and signaled for the Dodge to pull over.
The Dodge refused to slow down and the driver swerved at the
officer. The Daytona fled southbound on Route 1 and a pursuit
ensued.
Officers followed the suspect vehicle to Route 265 and then to
Route 9 in Harbeson. As the Dodge approached the area of Route 9 at
Route 5, a Milton Police officer deployed his departmentally issued
stop sticks (tire deflation device). The tires on the Dodge began to
deflate and the vehicle came to a stop on Route 9, just east of
Route 5. The driver, Carl W. Workman, 34, of Harington, was taken
into custody. He was transported back to Troop 7 for processing.
Mr. Workman was formally charged with Reckless Endangering
(felony), Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor), Disregarding a Police
Officers Signal (felony), No Proof of Insurance, DUI, Speeding,
Reckless Driving, Aggressive Driving, Driving While Suspended and
numerous other moving violations. A computer check revealed Workman
was also wanted on seven capiases out of Sussex County courts. He
