Subject Rams Felton Police Car- Flees into House

Released- Saturday, May 24, 2008

Felton- On Saturday, May 24th, at approximately 4:35 a.m., two Felton Police Officers were on routine patrol when they spotted a suspicious vehicle, a Chevrolet Lumina Van, pull around to the rear of the Lake Forest Elementary School in Felton. The Officers stopped this vehicle and contacted the driver- later identified as Reese Heesh, 32, of South Cesar Rodney Avenue in Camden.

Officers spoke Mr. Heesh at which time they could smell the odor of alcohol coming from his breath. As they were inquiring as to his reasons for being on school property, Heesh fled in his vehicle and a pursuit ensued.

At 4:39 a.m., Heesh made his way to Andrews Lake Road. He stopped his vehicle abruptly, put it in reverse and backed up into the front of the Felton Police car. With the officer stunned, Mr. Heesh got out of his vehicle and fled on foot into a residence along the 500 block of Andrews Lake Road. Reese refused to exit the house- which was also occupied by three other subjects. It was later learned that his ex-girlfriend lives at this home.

State Police responded and established a perimeter around the home. Hostage negotiators responded to the scene and made contact with Heesh. At approximately 8:30 a.m., when it was obvious that he was not going to come out peacefully, and with regard to the safety of those still inside the home, State Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT) members made entry and successfully took the suspect into custody. The three people that were still in the house were unharmed. They were all adults.

He was transported back to Troop 3 in Woodside where this investigation continues. A computer check revealed Heesh is also currently wanted on six (6) separate capiases out of the Kent and Sussex Court of Common Pleas. Criminal Charges are pending and will be listed in an email to be disseminated later this afternoon.

Note: The Felton Police Officer was not injured.
