Updated News Release #2- Vehicle Crash Results in Fuel Leakage

Released- Saturday, May 24, 2008

Christiana
- The following outlines the facts of the incident on I-95 at Route 7 yesterday.

A 2005 Sterling DelDOT truck (operated by Diane Johnson, 44, of New Castle) was stopped on the right shoulder of the ramp from Route 1 to southbound I-95.  A 2003 Freightliner tractor-trailer (operated by John Krug, 51, of Deptford, New Jersey), hauling diesel fuel, was traveling on the same ramp and was passing the DelDOT truck when it side-swiped same.

The trailer tank was punctured which resulted in the release of diesel fuel onto the roadway.  This required a HAZMAT response to conduct the clean up which was extensive. Aside from the cleaning of the area, the remaining fuel in the tank had to be off loaded onto another tanker.  In all, the incident took approximately seven hours, and closed the ramp for this amount of time.

Mr. Krug was cited for Careless Driving.
