Update on Traffic Crash on I-495
Released- Tuesday, May 20, 2008
Claymont- Investigators have concluded the investigation
into the morning crash that closed I-495.
On today’s date, at 6:51 a.m., Troopers responded to I-495
southbound just south of the Pennsylvania state line for a single
vehicle crash.
A 2005 GMC Sierra pick up truck (operated by James Christie, 50,
of Aston, PA) was traveling southbound on I-495. Christie was
traveling around a bend in the roadway at which time he also
attempted to change lanes. He lost control of his truck on the wet
road, hit a guardrail and ultimately overturned.
The driver was wearing his seatbelt. Mr. Christie was transported
to Wilmington Hospital where he was treated and released with
non-life threatening injuries. He was cited for Careless Driving.
The roadway was closed in both directions for approximately 20
minutes. The right lane of I-495 southbound is still closed at this
time as DelDOT is making repairs to the guardrail. Troopers are no
longer on the scene.
Any additional questions in regards to the road closure should be
directed to DelDOT.
