Released- Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Smyrna- On Tuesday, May 13th, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Correctional Officer / Food Service Specialist, Rawle A. London, 46, of Post Boulevard in Dover, reported to Delaware Correctional Center (DCC) in Smyrna for work. He was witnessed carrying a cellular phone into work, which is strictly against policy. This violation was reported to a superior officer who in turn confronted Mr. London. A further check of London’s person yielded $345.00 in cash (another policy violation) along with approximately 26 grams of suspected marijuana and approximately 1.5 grams of cocaine.

The evidence was secured and Troopers were immediately notified. Rawle London was transported to Troop 2 in Glasgow where the investigation continued. It was learned that Mr. London planned on distributing the contraband, including the cell phone, in the prison. No other Department of Correction (DOC) employees were implicated in this scheme.

London was formally charged with Possession with the Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Possession with the Intent to Deliver Cocaine and Promoting Prison Contraband. According to Court records, London was arraigned and released after posting $15,500.00 secured bail.

Following DOC policy, London, who has been with the Department since May 2005, has been placed on paid leave pending further administrative action.
