Towing / Salvage Company Owner Charged

New Castle- Investigators with the Delaware State Property
Division have concluded an investigation in which a towing / salvage
company owner was charged with several felony offenses.
On Thursday, May 1st, detectives were on Interstate I-95
northbound at Route 141 when they observed a transport truck,
hauling crushed cars, make several traffic violations. The officers
stopped this vehicle, and upon contacting the driver, they learned
the truck originated from Swifts Towing and Salvage on Old Airport
Road. The driver contacted the owner of Swifts Towing- Ronald
Bennett, 35, of Labrador Lane in Townsend, who responded to the
scene of the traffic stop. Mr. Bennett was unable to provide any
documentation required for these crushed cars.
The truck hauling the crushed cars was transported to a secondary
location where the crush vehicles were examined. One of the cars, a
1993 Honda Accord, was found to have been reported stolen to the
Wilmington Police Department on April the 13th.
On May the 6th, Ronald Bennett responded to Troop 2 were he
voluntarily turned himself in on charges of Receiving Stolen
Property (felony), Criminal Mischief (felony) and five counts of
Automotive Recycler Failed to Keep Accurate Records (misdemeanor).
He was released on a $4,500.00 unsecured bond.
