Robbery Suspect Conveniently Forgets his Name- Twice
Released- Monday, May 05, 2008
New Castle- On Sunday, May 5, 2008, Troopers responded to
the Fairview Inn, on South Market Street, regarding a robbery where
the threat of a gun was involved. As Troopers were responding, the
dispatch center (RECOM) learned the suspect had fled the scene. This
information was passed along to responding patrol units who in turn
began an area canvas.
While checking the area, a Trooper located Ricky H. Jones, 41,
West 2nd Street in Wilmington, walking northbound on South Market
Street near A-Street. He matched the description of the robber and
he was taken into custody without incident.
Jones was transported back to the crime scene where he was
positively identified as the suspect. The investigating officer
spoke with the victim who advised Jones stole her money and
threatened her with a gun.
Ricky Jones was then transported to Troop 2 where he provided
officers with several false names. He then signed a formal state
document and a federal finger print card also with a false name. His
fingerprints were then sent to the State Bureau of Identification
where his true identity was revealed.
He was charged with Robbery 1st (felony), Forgery 2nd (felony),
two counts of Criminal Impersonation (misdemeanor), Making False
Written Statements (misdemeanor), Trespassing (misdemeanor) and
Disorderly Conduct (misdemeanor). Jones was committed to the Howard
Young Correctional Institute in lieu of $30,500.00 secured bond.
