Released- Friday, April 11, 2008

New Castle- On Friday, April 11th, at approximately 12:54 a.m., Troopers were called to the area of Rodgers Road and New Castle Avenue in reference to a subject passed out behind the wheel.

Troopers arrived on the scene and found a 2003 Ford Explorer, in the intersection, running with the operator passed and unresponsive.  Officers were not sure if this operator was having a medical emergency.  When they got the door open, the smells of marijuana and alcohol, painted a different picture as to what they were dealing with.

Officers identified the operator as Edward J. Hightower, 34, of New Castle.  He was found to have been in possession of marijuana, $805.00 in suspected drug money and drug paraphernalia.  Also, officers found him to have been impaired by alcohol.

Mr. Hightower was transported back to Troop 2 for processing. Here he was formally charged with Possession with the Intent to Deliver Marijuana (felony), Maintaining a Vehicle for Keeping Marijuana (felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (misdemeanor) and D.U.I.
